SHOOTING

TRIPS

&

LESSONS

The Club shoots each Wednesday afternoon. We usually meet opposite the Appleton Tower on campus at 1:30pm. We shoot at Cluny Clays, a shooting range which is only an (exceptionally pretty) 45 minute drive out of town and into Fife. Transport is organized by the club (typically a mixture of hire cars/members' cars/minibuses) and we are normally back in Edinburgh by around 6pm.

To get involved you must contact and pay the Club usually by the preceding Monday. This early payment is necessary to arrange that there is enought transport for Wednesday. To do this, you can usually arrange to pay cash or simply do a bank transfer to the club account. If you have never shot with the club before you don't need to be a member to shoot on the first two occassions. However if you wish to continue to shoot with us you must become a member of the club... this will also include shooting insurance.

We also request that any members who have a full drivers license and/or a shotgun certificate inform the committee about it, and forward on copies to us. This helps us to ensure that shoot groups always have in order to organize our shoots.

Shooting Grounds...

Cluny Clays is an exemplary shooting ground where you will have access to over 35 clay pigeon traps set up in a sporting target layout that includes a 70' tower. These are regularly adjusted in order to increase variety week-in-week-out.

There are various targets suitable for beginners, experienced game and clay shooters. Olympic, English skeet and Down the Line shooting is also available.

2 of the ranges are covered and set up with compact sporting targets, one of which has targets more aimed at those wanting to shoot F.I.T.A.S.C.

Lessons & Coaching...

You will be coached by some of our most experienced members, and we will occasionally have a qualified instructor to hand for further fine tuning.

One-to-one lessons can also be organized via Cluny Clays who have some excellent instructors available.

Competitions...
There are a number of competitions members are able to shoot for the club in, including:
  • St Andrews Challenge
  • BUCS
  • Lancaster Competition
  • Aberdeen Competition
...amongst many others.

To ensure that everyone has a fair chance of selection for the teams it is recommended you attent the weekly shoots as trials will be done then.
